Severe hepatic, renal, CV or resp diseases. Phaeochromocytoma & epilepsy. Patients previously treated w/ tranquillizers w/ sedative effect should have the drugs w/drawn gradually. May impair ability to drive or operate machinery. Long-term therapy.
Restlessness &/or insomnia. Rarely, extrapyramidal symptoms. Sedation & antimuscarinic effects may also occur. In addition, tardive dyskinesias may occur occasionally.
Drug Interactions
May enhance the response to alcohol, barbiturates & other CNS depressants. May block the antihypertensive effects of guanethidine or similar compd. May reduce the effect of levodopa & adrenergic drugs. Increases risk of extrapyramidal symptoms w/ metoclopramide & piperazine.
